After attending the Heart Day Walking Event
To commemorate World Heart Day (September 29), the "Heart Day Walking Event" was held on September 28 at the Seoul Olympic Park to raise public awareness about cardiovascular diseases and the importance of walking as a preventive exercise. Despite concerns about potential rain, the event enjoyed clear autumn weather, and the venue was filled with over 1,000 participants who had pre-registered.
The event was organized by the Korean Society of Cardiology. The Korean Society of Echocardiography set up a booth to demonstrate carotid ultrasound, offering participants a hands-on experience related to cardiovascular health. The booth was met with great enthusiasm, and reservations were fully booked within about five minutes after registration opened.
Before the carotid ultrasound demonstration, I participated in the walking event, taking a break from hospital duties to enjoy the warm autumn sunshine and clear blue skies while walking through the park with participants. Seeing children walking hand in hand with their families was particularly touching, reminding me once again of the importance of family and health.
The carotid ultrasound demonstration was conducted by Professors Yoo Seung-ki from Ewha Womans University College of medicine, Jeong Hye-moon from Kyung Hee University College of Medicine, and Kim Dae-young from Inha University College of Medicine. Participants showed great interest in checking their carotid artery status and vessel pulsation in real time. Many expressed that the post-demonstration counseling helped them understand the importance of vascular health management. I hope that such events continue in the future and offer more opportunities for communicating with the public and raising awareness about the importance of heart and vascular care.
