Last Sunday, at 8:30 PM (5:30 PM local time in India), a webinar jointly hosted by the Korean Society of Echocardiography and the Indian Academy of Echocardiography (IAE) was successfully held. Under the topic of “Unusual cardiomyopathy,” Professor Kim Hyung-yoon of Incheon Sejong Hospital in Korea shared the cases of four patients with diverse clinical course on the topic of genetic cardiomyopathy. In the discussion, we talked about the clinical experience of administering mavacamten in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, how the use of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging differs across countries, and the importance of genetic testing in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The author shared a patient case of immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced cardiomyopathy presenting with cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation. The discussion focused on the use of echocardiography and the role of global longitudinal strain in diagnosis both prior to and during immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment. Professor Rishikesh Shah from India shared various images of patients with saw-tooth cardiomyopathy and discussed the differentiation from noncompaction cardiomyopathy. While sharing the case of a 15-year-old patient diagnosed with Danon cardiomyopathy, Professor Arif Mustaqueem explained that heart transplantation is the only treatment option in cases of advanced disease. Although we come from different countries and speak different languages, it was a valuable opportunity to share experiences in diagnosing and treating diverse patients and to feel a shared passion for improving prognosis and learning. This video is available for replay on the IAE YouTube channel.
